A 22-year-old Scheduled Caste youth, who was escorting his pregnant wife from a hospital, was brutally murdered in Miryalaguda town of Telangana on Friday, allegedly by the girl’s family.
The girl belongs to an “upper caste” family. The girl’s father and uncle, who are the prime accused in the murder, are absconding. The Nalgonda Police have announced a reward for information about them.
According to the police, Perumalla Pranay and Tirunagaru Amrutha Varshini were childhood friends. They fell in love and got married against the will of the girl’s father Tirunagaru Maruthi Rao, a rich realtor.
Though her family objected to the wedding and did not entertain the couple for long, her parents recently revived terms with them. It is said that Varshini’s father even invited her home, but alone. However, she preferred to stay with her in-laws, which seems to have upset Maruthi Rao.
On Friday, Pranay and his mother accompanied Amrutha to Jyothi Hospital for a medical checkup. The CCTV footage at the hospital shows a tall man following the trio, while they were walking out of the hospital.
Just as they crossed the gate, he hit Pranay’s head from behind with a machete. As Pranay collapsed, the assailant hacked him to death and escaped.
